Shanghai

Vehicle engineering, semiconductors and industrial research.

Shanghai offers several starting points for industrial research: vehicle engineering in Jiading, research-intensive companies in Zhangjiang and manufacturing in Lin-gang. Treating these locations separately makes a technical comparison more useful.

01 / Industry profile

What shapes the industrial base.

This overview focuses on the topics covered by our location research so far. It is not a comprehensive industry directory.

Vehicle engineering & sensing

Jiading combines automotive engineering with vehicle electronics and sensing. Hesai and the Shanghai Industrial Technology Research Institute (SITRI) illustrate different roles: sensor products and manufacturing process development. [1]

Semiconductors

The 2026 investment guide places chip design, manufacturing, packaging, testing and equipment across several locations. Zhangjiang, Lin-gang and Jiading have distinct specialisms; plans to connect them further do not establish existing supplier relationships. [2]

Research & product development

Zhangjiang brings together integrated circuits, biomedicine and AI. Equipment suppliers can explore requirements for laboratory instruments, pilot processes and the translation of research into a reliable product. [3]

02 / Industrial locations

Where to investigate further.

Jiading, Zhangjiang and Lin-gang are separate locations. The administrative map does not depict a continuous supply chain.

01

Jiading

Vehicle engineering and sensing

SITRI describes development processes for intelligent sensor chips. This complements discussions with vehicle technology companies: a working sensor must fit into a system and be reproducibly manufacturable. [1]

A question to explore

Which tests separate a functioning sensor prototype from an approved series-production component?

02

Zhangjiang · Pudong

Research-intensive development

The location profile identifies semiconductors, biomedicine and AI as its core sectors. Before arranging discussions, establish whether a company conducts development, laboratory work or production at the specific site. [3]

A question to explore

What pilot data does a development team need before handing a process over to production?

03

Lin-gang

Automotive and semiconductor manufacturing

The municipal industry guides include Lin-gang in both automotive and semiconductors. This supports two possible technical themes, but does not define a shared factory itinerary. [2] [4]

A question to explore

Which process and supplier approvals are required to industrialise production at a new site?

One possible technical assessment framework

  1. 01Define the requirement
  2. 02Validate the process
  3. 03Assess production readiness

03 / For your business

What would you like to investigate?

The specific task determines which companies, technical teams and locations are relevant.

A component for vehicle applications?

Start with the specification, required evidence and the team responsible for approval. Then determine whether sensor development, system integration or manufacturing is the right discussion topic.

A new manufacturing technology?

Compare pilot and series-production conditions: process windows, measurement methods, scrap and maintenance requirements. A demonstrator alone does not answer these questions.

Local development partners?

Define work packages, data access and responsibility for testing. This keeps the search focused on the technical contribution you need.
