Panyu or Huangpu? Comparing automotive locations in Guangzhou

Panyu brings together several GAC Group activities. Huangpu contains distinct vehicle plants and public mobility services. Understanding those roles helps define a useful industrial visit.

Panyu: development and own-brand vehicle production

Panyu’s 2024 work report records the relocation of GAC’s headquarters to Auto City, also home to Trumpchi, Aion and the group’s research institute. This proximity makes the location relevant to the transition from development and validation to production.

Useful questions include how development and plant teams coordinate changes and which component capabilities sit within the group. Direct supply relationships and shorter development cycles need their own evidence; proximity alone does not establish them.

Huangpu: two manufacturers and public-road operations

XPENG’s 2024 annual report describes its Guangzhou plant as a location for R&D, manufacturing, vehicle testing and sales. Smart-EV production began there in December 2022. It provides a reference point for how a Chinese electric-vehicle manufacturer organises production.

GAC Honda opened a newly built NEV factory on 23 December 2024. It illustrates an established joint venture’s electrification through a new plant. It is not documented evidence of converting an existing production line. That distinction matters when seeking solutions for an existing factory.

Separately, WeRide announced a round-the-clock driverless robotaxi service in Huangpu in September 2025. That source concerns public mobility operations. It establishes neither access to internal operating data nor a shared production system with the two manufacturers.

Which question points to which location?

The following comparison is an editorial guide to choosing a topic. It describes potential research questions, not agreed visit programmes.

What still needs to be confirmed before a visit

Plan Huangpu as several distinct research locations. A manufacturer visit addresses different questions from observing public transport operations. Travel times and access to the relevant technical teams determine what can usefully be combined.

For both districts, visit access remains unconfirmed until the organisations concerned agree. A public service does not include a technical briefing. A firm itinerary requires agreement on hosts, topics and access conditions.
